Richard Child Design and Project Management
Richard’s initial employment was managing a workshop which turned barometer cases in Manchester; this led to a job in what was then a cutting-edge design and build company in the unlikely setting of a once whalebone stay factory in a village near Huddersfield in West Yorkshire run by Royal College of Art graduate Jack Hardy.
Designworkshop designed and manufactured simple elegant Modernist-influenced furniture and interiors and for several years in the early 80s worked with the minimalist architects John Pawson and Claudio Silvestrin at the start of their careers, producing interiors and furniture with the detailing and truth to materials that was the foundation of their success.
In 1991 Richard left to start his own company; Schimmer Child Ltd was formed in 1994 when Claire Schimmer became a co-director.
When Richard isn’t problem-solving he’s likely to be found on a Scottish Mountain in his new Paramo waterproof leggings or on one of his fleet of bicycles.
Richard is the man who cycled through Albania so the rest of us don’t have to.
