37 Aldridge Road Villas
37 Aldridge Road Villas is a Victorian Towm house in Notting Hill. Schimmer Child originally designed and built the interior of the basement flat, but when the couple that lived in the top three floors of decided to retire and move away, the house was restored to a single family home.
The most striking feature is the freestanding oak spiral staircase which is housed in a tube that runs through the three floors. As the staircase isn’t connected to the central column, each tread was built as a constructional torsion box. The central column is a Satinice tube containing argon filled light tubes.
