Japanese Influenced

John Pawson spent some time in Japan before becoming an Architect and a Japanese aesthetic informed his early work. Designworkshop made a number of wooden bathtubs for properties in London with Pawson interiors; this led to Richard being asked to make wooden tubs and shoji screens by other designers and architects.

The shoji screens are usually made from cedar; sometimes Cedar of Lebonan- which is aromatic- or Southern Cedar although some close grained hardwoods are suitable. Traditionally paper was used to give privacy while allowing some light through, but as this had to be replaced every year the modern alternative of paper encapsulated in clear acrylic is much more practical and looks as beautiful. The paper is imported directly from Japan.
